The Link: Day On Campus

DAY ON CAMPUS

We were excited and blessed to welcome more than 500 guests to our Enterprise campus on Saturday, March 16th for our annual Day on Campus! Guests arrived from all over Florida to take tours of our campus, attend presentations on Foster Care, Traumatic-based Crises and Legacy Planning, hear the stories of our continuing ministry and eat a delicious lunch.

During our presentation, we were honored and privileged to recognize those who go beyond and above in partnering with us. Our 2023 Church of the Year is Anona UMC in Largo. Our 2023 Pastor of the Year is Rev. Jim Divine from Lake Deaton UMC in Wildwood. Our 2023 Local Church Representative of the Year is Larry Kozak from First UMC in Sanford. Our 2023 Engagement Team of the Year is First Church Oviedo. Our 2023 Community Partner of the Year is Advent Health Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City. Thank you to all of you who partner with us and enable us to transform the lives of so many children and their families!

As wonderful as all of these activities were during Day on Campus, the most exciting was yet to come! We have known for many years that our name, Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, just did not adequately describe who we are and all the services that we render throughout the state of Florida. Many continued to think of the Children’s Home as an orphanage or a single site or a single service. Others thought our services were limited to only those children and their families who were United Methodist while others were under the impression that only United Methodists could support our efforts. As challenging as it was and proved to be, we knew we needed to change our name to more fully describe all that we are and all that we do, including group residential care in multiple locations, Foster Care in four counties, outpatient counseling in ten counties, as well as an on campus school and Montessori School at the Enterprise campus. We unveiled our new name – Residing Hope – and our new logo.

Our name and brand have changed but our mission: “Empower children and families to experience the transforming love of Christ through evidence-based care and holistic services” remains the same. Our name and brand have changed but our long term missional relationships and partnerships remain the same and will grow with us into the future. We cannot adequately express our appreciation and love for all those who have partnered with us over our first 116 years. We look forward to another 116 plus years ahead!

DID YOU KNOW?

In the 116-year history of Residing Hope, formerly Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, this is our fourth name change. In 1908 we started as the Florida Methodist Orphanage. In the 1930s, realization was made that we were serving few orphans and more children who had been abused, neglected and abandoned so the name was changed to
Florida Methodist Children’s Home. With the formation of the UMC in 1968 and merge with the Sarah Hunt Home, we became the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in 1971, and now we are Residing Hope.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL SEASON COMING SOON

Summer will soon arrive which means Vacation Bible School is not far behind! VBS continues to offer an incredible opportunity to meet children where they are and share the Gospel with them. Many churches emphasize a particular mission with their VBS programs and we would love to be that mission emphasis. We can send you any information or materials you need and even more, we would be glad to come and share briefly with your children about the ministries of Residing Hope! Contact Brian or 386-561.3153 for more information.
If you'd like to give to Residing Hope, please choose UM FL Children's Home from the Fund List.
